The permanent fair ground in Kolkata, Milan Mela, will finally become a reality with Ahluwalia Contracts (India) bagging the Rs 50 crore project.
Shobhit Uppal, director said, the company had roped in German architect, J V Consult for the project. J V Consult also happens to be a partner in Ahluwalia’s expo centre in Greater Noida, which was four times the size of the first phase of the Milan Mela.
Spread across 13 acres, Milan Mela would have a built-up space of 16,000 square metre.
Uppal said, the ground would be built in a way so as to accommodate the common man and also play host to international exhibitions.
The crafts corner and food court would be permanent features at the fair ground.
Ahluwalia would try and give the project a local touch by displaying terracotta murals featuring Kolkata icons, Mother Teresa and Rabindranath Tagore.
The project would be completed in 18 months’ time.
