The foundation stone of Noida metro rail project was laid at a function at Sector 32 here.

Uttar Pradesh Development Council chairman Amar Singh and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav laid the foundation stone.

Noida-Greater Noida chairman Rakesh Bahadur and Noida CEO Sanjiv Saran were present on the occasion with local MP Ashok Pradhan and Meerut Divisional Commissioner Deo Datt.

Speaking on the occasion, he announced that the Noida Metro would be extended up to Sector 62. The present plan involves linking of Metro from New Ashoknagar in Delhi to City Centre in Sector 32. After a lot of hype, hoopla and bureaucratic dithering over the Noida metro for nearly 2 years, Noida will indeed find its place on Delhi Metro’s map. DMRC has sent the detailed project report (DPR) to the urban development ministry for approval. The line is touted to be on ground by the Commonwealth Games 2010. Noida Authority has decided to fund 80% of cost for the metro line from New Ashok Nagar to Noida. While the rest 20% will be funded by the urban development ministry in form of grants, as opposed to equity, as in the case of Delhi Metro.

Metro service in India to reach Noida before Commonwealth Games
