Land rates in Noida are poised for another flight — soon after the authorities of the Noida, Greater Noida and the Taj Expressway unveiled major infrastructure initiatives in their annual infrastructure Budget.
On May 1, when officials of the Noida Authority convene their 150th board meeting, the present rates might see a hike of 35 per cent. A year ago, there had been another steep rise — of nearly 80 to 120 per cent around August, 2007.
Sources said the Authority will go ahead with proposed raise in property prices since compensation for land owned by farmers has been doubled recently. A 22-member committee had been set up to look into the compensation issue.

In the late seventies and early eighties, the American car industry was manufacturing big, fuel-guzzling leviathans. With each launch, the models became bigger and grander. Quality standards and reliability took a backseat and after-sales service remained abysmal. Manufacturers focused mostly on features, on loading the car with accessories, referred to in industry parlance as `bells and whistles’, from where they earned fat margins. They nearly broke the back of the Big Three from Detroit, and drove one, Chrysler, to near bankruptcy. A similar story

If you have to invest now, invest in property. For over a decade, this has been the common refrain of drawing room conversations. These topics most often lead to a debate about who to buy from, who’s reliable, who has the best construction and who can get you the best deals. Five years ago, names such as DLF, Unitech, Ansals, the Essel and Eros Groups would be dropped, at least in most north Indian homes. Today new names have cropped up: Eldeco, Omaxe, Parsvnath, the Vatika Group, the Shipra Group, Aerens. While most of these relatively new companies
